I'm Jeanne-Marie Derrick, I sculpt and paint in a multiple of mediums.
My art work is an invitation to see the world through a lens that synthesizes whimsy with wisdom, comedy and commentary, sprinkled with a dash of sarcasm and a whole lot of intrigue. I aim to explore ideas that make you pause and reflect, but also those that make you laugh out loud or feel a sense of pure, unadulterated fun. Encouraging viewers to explore the depths of their own imagination with a fresh perspective, one that celebrates freedom and the boundless possibilities of evolving human creativity. I want my art to make you feel something real and see something new.
In each piece, there's a story waiting to be told, an emotion to be felt, and hopefully, an inspiring spark that leaves you with a food for thought. When painting, I work with oil and acrylic on canvas, ink and watercolor on plastic, board and paper. My sculptures are created using a variety of materials from clay, tree bark, metal and plastic drum wrap to found objects, creating colorful and eclectic pieces inspired by nature and response to everyday life.
I draw inspiration from inspiring people, nature, as well as indigenous art from cultures like Native American, African, and Asian. Creating art is my way of connecting with the world, and I hope my work brings a bit of fun and reflection into your life, just as it does mine.
In essence, my art is a testament to the vibrant spectrum of human experience, blending the profound with the playful, and the reflective with the revelatory. It is my hope that each piece serves as inspiration, inviting you to celebrate the beauty and complexity of life in all its myriad forms.
